FIELD NOTE:::
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a chelator of metal ions.
It is a substituted diamine, which has antibacterial activity.
EDTA removes the undesirable effects of ferric, cupric and manganic ions in bleaching.
It prevents cellular division, chlorophyll synthesis and algal biomass production.
Note
- EDTA (ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid) and its salts are substituted diamines. HEDTA (hydroxyethyl ethylenediamine triacetic acid) and its trisodium salt are substituted amines. These ingredients function as chelating agents in cosmetic formulations.
Application
- It is a substituted diamine, which has antibacterial activity. EDTA removes the undesirable effects of ferric, cupric and manganic ions in bleaching.
Dose
The typical concentration of use of EDTA is less than 2%, with the other salts in current use at even lower concentrations.
