Hexamethylenetetramine, also known as methenamine, hexamine, or urotropin, is a heterocyclic organic compound with the formula (CH2)6N4. HEXAMINE Used as a corrosion inhibitor for steel.
- It can be used as a curing agent for resins and plastics, the vulcunization accelrator of rubber and textile shrink proof agent.
- It can also be used for making antimicrobial drug explosives and so on. As medicine, after oral administration, It can be decomposed when coming accros acidic urine to generate formaldehye and exerts its antibacterial effect used for treating mild urinary tract infection; it can be extremely used for treating ringworm, antiperspirants, and treatment of undrarm odor. Its beingmixed with caustic soda sodium phenol can be used as the phosgene absorber of gas masks. It can be used as a kind of anti-microbial agent.

It can also be used for the determination of copper, uranium, beryllium, tellurium etc. Moreover, it can be used as gas chromatography fixed solution (maximum usage temperature of 180 ℃ with the solvent being chloroform).

The dominant use of hexamethylenetetramine is in the production of powdery or liquid preparations of phenolic resins and phenolic resin moulding compounds, where it is added as a hardening component.
Uses of Hexamine
Hexamine is used in adhesives. It is also used as a sealing compound and as a cross-linking agent during the vulcanization of rubber.
Under ambient conditions, hexamine is a white crystalline solid which emanates a fishy, ammonia-like smell.
The Duff reaction, the Delepine reaction, and the Sommelet reaction involve the use of hexamine as a chemical reagent.
