Potassium Molybdate

Potassium Molybdate is a white, crystalline powder, highly soluble in water. It is a high purity compound. Unlike Sodium Molybdate, Potassium Molybdate crystallizes in its anhydrous form, but the compound is still deliquescent in moist air.

Remarks

Function of molybdenum

Molybdenum is an essential component in two enzymes that convert nitrate into nitrite (a toxic form of nitrogen) and then into ammonia before it is used to synthesize amino acids within the plant. It also needed by symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria in legumes to fix atmospheric nitrogen. Plants also use molybdenum to convert inorganic phosphorus into organic forms in the plant.

Note

Potassium Molybdate  is also used in the analytical colorimetric testing for the concentration of silica in solution, called the molybdenum blue method. Additionally, it is used in the colorimetric determination of phosphate quantity in association with the dye malachite green.
HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions for safe handling : Wear personal protective equipment/face protection. Avoid dust formation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or on clothing. Do not breathe dust. Do not ingest. If swallowed then seek medical assistance. Keep away from heat and direct sunlight. Conditions for safe storage:Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.
